He says: One of the scholars was asked about gazing upon the Visual Form? He replied: 'The observer only gazes upon the brilliance (talalu') of that Form according to his own ability and the simplicity of his essence. The light of his sight meets that "Beheld Light," which [intensity] prevents him from total perception (al-idrak).'

From the 'Mahdiyya Treatise for Guidance' (al-Risala al-Mahdiyya lil-Irshad): Authored by the Prince Nasih al-Dawla Jaysh bin Muhammad bin Mahraz. He composed it in the year 500 AH (five hundred after the Hijra)—may God sanctify his soul.

He says: 'Your letter has arrived, my master—may God prolong your life and sustain your protection and blessings. You mention what occurred between you and some of the brethren—may God preserve them—regarding their claim that: "The Visual Form, which is the Ultimate Goal, has its parts disassembled, its attributes [or sweetnesses] vanished, and returns to its prime matter (Hayula)." You also mention your rejection of this claim... [leading] to his saying: "I hereby provide the answer to that, with the help of God and His gracious success, seeking thereby nearness to Him and a high station before Him, based on what I have learned and understood through both intellect and transmission from the master scholars and the discerning Sheikhs—may God sanctify their souls and elevate their ranks."'
