Their answer to him was exactly as you answered Ja‘far ibn Muhammad, and they questioned him as you have questioned about the knowledge of that. So he revealed to them and explained what I have explained and described to you. He named their names for them and characterized them by their descriptions, forms, types, and crafts, and [explained] how Allah punished them, what He made them famous for, and warned and frightened [the believers] against them, conveying to them the same warnings and threats I have conveyed. Then he named the names and attributed the tribes to them. Once they recognized that from him and were certain, they requested from him the knowledge of the descriptions, attributes, types, and crafts, so that they might possess that knowledge and science; thus, if they saw its people or those known by it, they would avoid them, turn away from them, not find solace in them, and protect the Secret of Allah from them and from their denial of it.
The Commander of the Faithful—may His Might be exalted—said to them: "Indeed, they are with you and mingling with you. You eat with them and drink with them; you find solace in them and rely upon them. You visit them if they fall ill, and you give them water and food if they ask. You believe them if they testify, support them if they are wronged, and grant them security if they are frightened.
