Jabir said: "I said: 'O my Master, You have favored me and the group of believers in Your presence with the knowledge of them through their deeds, and the knowledge of their names and tribes, until we came to know that. So favor us with the knowledge of their characteristics and the attributes You mentioned and manifested, and [the knowledge of] their crafts, so that we may know that just as You taught us before, so we may be cautious of their coming. For we have no knowledge except what You have taught us and guided us toward, regarding the knowledge of that which we do not know and which none knows but You.'"

He—may His Might be exalted—said: "O Jabir, before you and before these companions of yours, there was a gathering like this gathering, and all of them were with your Master, the Commander of the Faithful, in this very house in which Ja‘far ibn Muhammad is now in Kufa. They did exactly as you have done regarding the slaughter of these people whom you recognized; they slaughtered them just as you slaughtered them, and there occurred upon them the same as that which you carried out of punishment and exemplary chastisement. When they had completed through them [the sacrifices] that which you have attained, and sat where you are now sitting, the Commander of the Faithful asked them about the knowledge of what they had slaughtered and tortured with their hands, just as I asked you about that.
