By Allah, he is listening, and he is one of you. By Allah, he has not repented, nor has he followed the example of the slanderer from the Children of Israel regarding his repentance from his slander. And indeed, among you are three individuals who have hearkened to him and voiced his view, and you shall know of them not far off."
Then Ahmad ibn Sandula, al-Abbas al-Labban, and Ali ibn Hassan said: “Our number at that time and day was over seventy men. Each one of us thought that what he wished for in himself would be different from what was in the Junah (container), in order to see the proof of his Lord. So he said: ‘Record your wishes in your handwriting.’ And he tossed to us a scroll 1 , so each one of us recorded what he wished for on a separate slip, and did not show it to his other companion. So we all wrote until our number was complete. Then he ordered the opening of the Junah and said: ‘Come forward, O So-and-so son of So-and-so, and take what you wished for.’ He began calling each one of us by his name and saying: ‘Bring your slip and take from the Junah what you wished for.’ By Allah, not one of us reached his hand into the Junah except that he found in it what he had wished for and wrote in his slip, except for four individuals whose mention has preceded—for they extended their hands, one after another, yet they found nothing in the Junah (container). And this was an increase in their disbelief, their doubt, their envy, and their denial.
