And he [Ibn Nusayr] was declaring the Oneness of Allah (Yuhallil), glorifying Him (Yumajjid), praising Him (Yusabbih), sanctifying Him (Yuqaddis), magnifying Him (Yukabbir), and extolling Him. And we were saying and repeating what we heard from him.
Suddenly, Abu Nasr the Servant entered upon us, and with him was another servant, and upon his head was a Jawnah 1 .
So he said: "O Gate of Allah (Bab Allah), your Master conveys peace to you and says to you: 'This is my masterpiece, my greeting, and my gift to those in your presence among our Sincere Friends (Awliya')'."
So he placed it before him and departed.
Then our Master Abu Shu'ayb turned to us and said:
"Let every single one of you wish for the ultimate limit of his desires, and let him not fall short in his wish; for whoever falls short in his wish, his share will fall short."
So we said within our souls:
"Glory be to Allah! This is a single basket (Jawnah). So if we wish for what is not in the basket, how will we attain it?" So he said to us: "This basket is a trial (Mihna) for you and a test upon you."
