And with the success and aid of Allah, I shall explain it to you clearly, based on what I have transmitted from the past sheikhs and the truthful predecessors, on the authority of the auspicious Masters, and through the verses of the Clear Book, the well-known chains of transmission, and the narrated reports.
The first thing we begin with is the saying of the Majestic in the Decisive Revelation: {Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve months in the register of Allah [from] the day He created the heavens and the earth; of these, four are sacred. That is the correct religion, so do not wrong yourselves during them} 1 . Thus, we recognized and learned that the months of the year are twelve months, neither increasing nor decreasing, despite the differences in calendars, tongues, and languages. It is necessary that we mention the beginning of every year, as within its months lies the mention of some of these previously mentioned festivals, both Arab and non-Arab.
The first of the calendars is the year of the Persians in the language of the Persians; its beginning is the month of Afrwardin Mah, then Ardibihisht Mah, and Khardad Mah, and the months of the year that follow. The beginning of the Persian year is Afrwardin Mah, and the first day of it is Nowruz, its mention and its supplication shall follow.
