And by the Ascension (Mi'raj) and He who contained it; by the Basin (Hawd), by the Zunnar (Belt) 1 , and by the truths of the hidden Fire. By the Spirit ignited from the Palm of Maryam, by the Greatest Cross 2 , by Saint Maryam, and by what is recited in the Church, and the precious words. By the Sha'anin 3 , by the proof by Mari Sam'an4
Footnotes
1Zunnar: A belt that a Christian fastens around his waist.
2The trusted Sheikh Al-Jilli mentioned in his "Christian Epistle" (Chapter Two: On knowing the reason for manifesting the Cross): It is a sign. The origin of the Cross is two pieces of wood; if we place one over the other, they become four ends, because the origin of "La ilaha illa Allah" is four words. Furthermore, the name of the Cross (Salib) is four letters, corresponding to the four successive Natures from which the world was generated; thus, it is the origin of creation. The Cross is like the Macrocosm, for the Macrocosm is like the sphere encompassing the other seven spheres (it rotates them), so it has four quarters/diameters. Likewise, the Cross has four limits. The origin of the Cross is two limits from a limit, and the two limits are the Limit just as the Command (Amr) and the Will (Mashi'a). The third limit represents the Pre-eternal (Al-Azal), may His Might be exalted. Also, the Cross originates from two pieces of wood having a pole/axis that unites them. The proof is that you say "One in One" (multiplication), and these are three connected limits, not separated. However, if you say "One in One" regarding the number itself, nothing is added to it by calculation. As for the Microcosm, which the Cross was made to possess/rule over: the Cross has eight pomegranates (ramamin), two on each end. The pomegranates and the four limits make twelve limits, corresponding to the number of the twelve Tribes of Moses, and the number of the Disciples of the Lord Christ Jesus. Note: The Basin, the Zunnar, and Baptism also have esoteric references (Batin) that space does not allow to be mentioned here; whoever desires more should refer to the "Christian Epistle" by Sheikh Al-Jilli, may Allah sanctify his soul.
3Sha'anin: The Feast of Hosannas (Palm Sunday). It is the seventh Sunday of the Great Lent and the last before Easter (Resurrection). The week starting with it is called Holy Week. It commemorates the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. It is also called the Sunday of Palms or Olives because the people of the city welcomed him with palms and decorated olive branches, spreading their clothes, palm fronds, and olive branches before him. Thus, it is customary to use palms and decorations in most churches to celebrate this day.
4Saint Simon is titled "The Zealot" because of his faith and teachings regarding the Jewish Law. He was one of the original followers of Christ.
