They remained in that state, not coming out to the mosque for prayer, until the forty days were complete, just as my Master, the Commander of the Believers—may His Might be glorified—had informed [me].

When the forty days had passed, they came out. Whenever I would meet one of them alone, without the other, he would say to me: 'O Abu Abd Allah, there is a matter between you and me, but I have not found a time to reveal it to you because I fear my companion might find out about it.' I would report that to my Master—may His Might be glorified—and He would say: 'It is as you know, O Salman.' This was one of the things that my Master, the Commander of the Believers—may His Might be glorified—revealed unto me."

With the aforementioned chain of narration (isnad), from Salman al-Farisi—may mercy be upon him—who said:

"Qanbar, the servant of my Master, the Commander of the Believers—may His Might be glorified—came to me in the last third of the night, on the Night of the Middle of Sha'ban. He knocked on my door and said: 'Answer the Commander of the Believers.' I hastened to the door of the chamber, opened it, and began to follow Qanbar's tracks as he walked before me until we reached al-Baqi', the cemetery of Medina.
