"The Commander of the Believers—may His Might be glorified—arose and stood, saying: 'Bear witness, O Salman.' I said: 'Yes, O my Master.' Qanbar, throughout all of this, was sitting beside me, not uttering a word, but faithfully looking at me and at the Commander of the Believers. My Master, the Commander of the Believers, came toward His mule, mounted it, and set off, while Qanbar and I followed Him. My Master then said: 'Go ahead and mount your two camels.'

I said: 'O my Master, has there not been what there has been [concerning them]?'

He—may His Might be glorified—said: 'Go on, O Salman, and mount, for whenever their skins are cooked, We shall replace them with other skins, that they may taste the torment (Surah Al-Nisa, 56).'

I went to look where the two camels were kneeling, and found them as they were, with their saddles upon them. I mounted, and Qanbar mounted, and I was certain of whom I was beneath—the one beneath me, whom I had mounted, was Dalal, who is the Second [of the two], may Allah curse him. My Master descended from Mount Abu Qubays, we descended after Him, and He traveled and we traveled.

Qanbar turned to me and said: 'O Abu Abd Allah, the Commander of the Believers has prolonged the conversation with you this night; what were you discussing?'

I said: 'Regarding a matter He entrusted to me.'
