Then the Commander of the Believers—may His Might be glorified—said: 'So where is that which you deposited in this mountain to plot against the Messenger of Allah when he ascended it with you?' Neither of them spoke a word. He repeated the question to them three times, but they gave Him no answer.
He then said: 'O Salman!' I said: 'At Your service, O my Master.' He said: 'Arise and go to this rock, remove it from its place, and bring me what is beneath it,' and He pointed to a massive stone. I arose and exerted all my effort to remove it until I succeeded, and beneath it were two daggers, terrifying in appearance and poisoned. I brought them to Him.
He said to them—may His Might be glorified: 'Did you not covenant that you would kill Muhammad, and kill me after him, with these two daggers?' Neither of them uttered a response. My Master then said: 'O Salman, take this dagger—for it is the dagger of Dalal (Deviation)—approach him with it, and as soon as he falls to the ground, slaughter him and leave his head upon his body, then return the dagger to its place. And take this and take this other dagger—for it is the dagger of Wabal (Calamity)—approach him with it, and as soon as he falls to the ground, do unto him as you did unto his companion, and return the dagger to its place.'
I said: 'I shall do as You have commanded me, O my Master, for I seek only Your pleasure.'
