By Allah, I had barely finished my words when those two camels shook off their burdens, and suddenly they were two human figures! I fell upon my face [in awe ]and I fell prostrate before my Master, seeking refuge in Him from His wrath, saying: 'Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return.' These were two camels that were beneath me and beneath Qanbar, and now they have become two human beings!
He said to me: 'O Salman, tell them to draw near to Me.' I said to them: 'Draw near to my Master, the Commander of the Believers.' They drew near and approached Him. He said to me: 'O Salman, contemplate them; do you recognize them?' I contemplated their figures, and behold, they were the Jibt and the Taghut (the Idol and the Tyrant), [known as] Sakad and Zazamud—may Allah the Exalted curse them both.
I said: 'It is you two! I bear witness that all that my Master, the Commander of the Believers, has said concerning you is the truth—regarding your plotting against Muhammad—may His Might be glorified—and [the fact that] through him you were, and to him you were committed, yet you did not turn away from plotting against him. But the evil plot does not encompass except its own people 1 . You plotted, and Allah plotted, and Allah is the best of plotters.'
I began to enumerate their misdeeds while they looked at me, neither returning an answer nor uttering a sound.
