The Report of Dalal and Wabal—may Allah curse them both

This is one of the reports regarding the Night of the Middle of Sha'ban, narrated by the Amir Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Abi al-Abbas—may Allah be pleased with him—with his chain of narration (isnad) from his men, reaching Abu al-Tayyib Ahmad ibn al-Husayn, who said: Abu Abd Allah al-Husayn ibn Hamdan al-Khasibi—may Allah brighten his countenance—narrated to me, from Ja'far ibn Muhammad al-Qummi, from Sulayman ibn Ali al-Razi, from Hisham al-Sarir al-Kufi, from Zur'ah ibn Sulayman al-Madani, from Ubadah, from al-Mu'alla ibn Khunays, from Jabir ibn Yazid al-Ju'fi, from Jabir ibn Abd Allah al-Ansari, from Salman al-Farisi—may mercy be upon him—who said:

"I entered upon my Master, the Commander of the Believers—may His Might be glorified—on the fourteenth day of the month of Sha'ban, during the second year of the Caliphate of Abu Bakr. I remained with Him until the sun set, and then I intended to depart. My Master—may His Might be glorified—said to me: 'O Salman, return to Me when one-third of the night has passed, for I have a need of you.'

I said: 'Yes, O my Master.' I went to my house, attended to what I needed of my affairs, and continued to watch for the time until the appointment He had set for me neared. Suddenly, Qanbar was standing at the door, holding the reins of the mule of the Messenger of Allah—may His Might be glorified.
