And His saying, the Exalted: {'And what can make you know what the Night of Power is?'} 1 [is because] the inverted world (al-'alam al-mankus) did not say anything other than that she was a woman, and that she passed through the loins and manifested from the wombs. But Allah refuted their claim, saying: "And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree?" 2 It is that which originated the creation and brought them into being. Then He said: "The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months" 3 —meaning a thousand prophets—and it is better than everything in the dominion. And His saying: "The angels and the Spirit descend therein" 4 .
The angels are the possessors of the knowledge of its reality, and the Spirit flows within it—meaning through the glorification of it, the call to its knowledge, the obedience to it, and its virtue—by the permission of their Lord for every matter; peace it is until the emergence of dawn. He said: It stands by the equity of justice and the manifestation in the stations of the Imams until Allah brings about the Revelation, which is the appearance of the Qa’im, peace be upon him.
It is also the night which Allah, the Exalted, mentioned in His Book, saying: "In a blessed night; indeed, We were to warn. On that night is made distinct every precise [wise] matter." 5
