When the morrow came, we went early to our Master Abu al-Hasan—peace be upon us [from him]. When we entered upon him, he initiated [speech] to us and said: 'Ibn Ayyub spoke the truth in his speech and acted beautifully in his deed.'
We said: 'O our Master, we came to thank him in your presence.'
He said: 'Indeed, my gratitude to him is better than your gratitude for what he did to you. I shall reward him and recompense him on your behalf with my grace that shall never cease from him. So trust in what I have promised you on my behalf, and strive in fulfilling my covenant so that my promise to you may prove true.'
We said: 'That is by your success-giving (Tawfīq) and your favor.'
We went out, being among the most complete of people in joy because of what our Master revealed to us. The group departed to their homes.
I departed to my home, having attained what I hoped for, and achieved what I sought and what was necessitated 1 .
