Thus, the revelation (al-Wahy) was by his hand, his eye, and his veil (Hijab), not by his tongue or his speech. The prohibition that 'Abd Allah manifested therein—regarding eating, drinking, lying, and uttering that which is not of the Truth, including all that Allah has forbidden therein—all of that was in anticipation of the manifestation of the Greatest Master (al-Sayyid al-Akbar), Muhammad. He is the Quran which Allah, Blessed and Exalted be He, mentioned saying: {The month of Ramadan [is that] in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion} 1 . Thus, the Month is: 'Abd Allah. And the Quran is Muhammad; and for this, there is a second explanation in His Almighty’s saying: {Ya, Seen. By the wise Quran} 2 , and he is Muhammad.
The meaning of:
{[The month] in which was revealed the Quran} 3 is: His manifestation and the revealing that He is from 'Abd Allah. And it is the Day of Eid al-Fitr: and its permissibility [the breaking of the fast] is [the permissibility of] all that 'Abd Allah had prohibited therein.
Shawwal: is al-Harith ibn 'Abd al-Muttalib.
