He said: "O Ali ibn Ahmad, hand the fresh date to this [man]." So I handed it to him. He said: "He directs his gifts at the [appropriate] time to whom He wills and singles him out."
My Master said: "O Ali ibn Ahmad, this fresh date—this man to whom you handed it shall carry it to a man in Hajar, and he is more deserving of it than Ishaq." And he was witnessing, seeing with his own eyes.
I said: "O my Master, and who is this who carries it to Hajar?" He said: "This is the Door of God (Bab Allah) and the Close One (Wali) of the believers; this is Muhammad ibn Nusayr al-Namiri. If anything is hidden from you, ask him about it, for he will inform you of it, whether you are absent or present."
Al-Husayn ibn Hamdan al-Khasibi said: So I asked Ali ibn Ahmad: "What was the last thing he enjoined upon you?" He said: "Yes, he began to say, while he was turning away, intending to cross the Alqami:
"O Ali ibn Ahmad, visit one another, I will visit you; and exchange gifts with one another, I will give to you and seek gifts for you. And do not boast with vanity. And let not the great among you demean the small among you, even if he is of poverty, neediness, and destitution. And let none of you withhold the knowledge of God from its seeker, for I have indeed warned you against that and forbidden it."
