The Report of al-Tufuf
The trustworthy Sheikh Abu al-Husayn Muhammad ibn Ali al-Jilli narrated to me from his Sheikh Abu Abd Allah al-Husayn ibn Hamdan al-Khasibi, may God make both their faces radiant, tracing the hadith to Abd Allah, the brother of al-Hurr al-Riyahi, who was present with our Master al-Husayn, may his might be mighty, on the Day of al-Tufuf. He said:
When the army of the oppressors marched and ordered the combat against al-Husayn, may his might be mighty, I went out fleeing from Kufa, complaining, weeping of the eye. So I penetrated into the wilderness and headed towards Ayn al-Tamr and its vicinities, waiting for relief, and I did not know our Master al-Husayn, peace be upon his mention, in reality. So I stayed for days, then I wanted to pass through from there to the vicinities of al-Ghadiriyyat, seeking
relief for myself. So while I was traveling, intending [to reach] al-Tufuf, and I did not know about the army's combat against our Master al-Husayn, may his might be mighty, and I was at the end of my day when God unveiled my vision, and I saw horses ascending to the sky, upon which were riders wearing green garments and red turbans, ascending from the earth to the sky.
