So they dispatched a horseman on a lean, swift horse to overtake him and guarantee to bring him back to them; and they set a vast sum of wealth for him in return.
The horseman’s name was Suraqa bin Malik. He set out, striving intensely in pursuit until he caught up with him. When the Messenger of Allah (Mighty is His Glory) saw him, he supplicated Allah to suffice him against his matter; whereupon the legs of his horse sank into the earth. Realizing whence this had come, he called out to the Messenger of Allah (Mighty is His Glory): "O Muhammad, I adjure you by Allah only to have mercy on me and release me! By Allah, I shall never again subject you to any harm." So he released him, and [Suraqa] returned to Mecca and informed them of the news, which struck them with awe.
Then Muhammad traveled to Taybah, where he was received by those of the Aws and Khazraj residing there who had answered his call and to whom he had promised the Migration. Thereafter, Allah ordained Jihad upon him. Quraysh did not know where the Messenger of Allah (Mighty is His Glory) had headed until they heard a Voice (Hatif) from the mountains of Mecca reciting this verse:
If the two Sa'ds submit [to Islam], Muhammad shall become
In Mecca, fearless of the opposition of any opponent.
