The Commander of the Faithful—may His glory be exalted—said: "O polytheists of Quraysh, your great numbers have deluded you. By the Splitter of the Seed and the Creator of the Soul, nothing shall be except what Allah wills. Had I wished to annihilate your gathering, you would be more insignificant to me than the moths of a lamp (Farash al-Siraj), and nothing is weaker than that." The polytheists laughed mockingly and said to one another: "Leave 'Ali for the sake of his father's sanctity, and pursue Muhammad."
He—may His glory be exalted—was in the cave, with Gabriel (peace be upon him) and Abu Bakr with him. The Messenger of Allah—may His glory be exalted—grieved for 'Ali and Khadija, so Gabriel said to him: "Do not grieve." Then Gabriel unveiled [the vision] for him, and he saw 'Ali and Khadija, and he saw the ship of Ja'far ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him) and those with him floating in the sea. Thus, Allah sent down His Tranquility (Sakina) upon His Messenger—which is the safety from what he feared for 'Ali and Khadija. Then Allah the Exalted sent down this verse: {the second of two}—meaning Gabriel (peace be upon him)—{when they were in the cave and he said to his companion, "Do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us." And Allah sent down His Tranquility upon him...} 1 .
