My hope is that which has labored 1 , and my whole has grown weary
And the Firm Place is my request and my sufficiency
Jabir said: I was astonished by the subtleness of his allusion and the refinement of his nature, so I did not return an answer. Suddenly, the voice of our Master al-Baqir called from inside the House, saying:
In you, you said what I spoke [with] deliberation
What remains of you in 2 the distance is through nearness
So seek the enduring things, and you shall ascend to us
In the hidden points of rising above the Veils
And raise the gaze toward the Gate of My Attributes
For whoever circumambulates it is sustained by My drink
Footnotes
1'Ana': exhaustion; so the meaning is "my hope is the cause of my exhaustion." Or the word may be "what we mean."
2In another manuscript: "In you, We said that which the created beings spoke; what remains of you, the distant, is through My nearness."
