I turned my gaze back and saw Salman with me and with 'Abdullah and his companions. I fell down and made Salman my guide to what I had seen, and I said: "O Gate of every Gnosis (Bab kull Ma'rifa), Guide of every bewildered one, and the one sought as witness for every complexity; through you I have known that which I was falling short of, O Wise One (Ya Hakim)." He said: The Najranis proceeded to the Dune and called out to me: "O you Ansari, is this your companion and the people of his house?" I went towards them; and whenever they spoke a thing, 'Abdullah would answer them from his place, yet they would hear it from those Lights; and if 'Abdullah did anything, they would behold it from them. And I was witnessing all of that until I saw the Masters (al-Mawali) they had gathered and covered themselves with a Qatwani cloak ('Aba'a Qatwaniyya). I turned and saw 'Abdullah and his companions gathered together such that I could not distinguish between them, and they had covered themselves with the cloak.
Then the Najranis were called: "Come to the Mutual Malediction (al-Mubahala), may Allah grant you success." Sammak said: I saw the people as they were drawing near and retreating three times, their intellects being bewildered. Then they gathered, and Shihab called out, saying:
A Light upon which there are veils for the eyes
Yet its evidences are manifest to the Knowers (al-'Arifin)
That a servant should dare to challenge him to malediction
