Then he—Exalted is His Majesty—said: 'Have I not conveyed the message to you?' They said: 'O Allah, yes!' He said: 'Whomsoever I was his Master (Mawla), then Ali is his Master. O Allah, befriend those who befriend him, and be the enemy of those who are his enemies.'
He (the narrator) said: The word of the Prophet spread among all the people, and it reached Al-Harith ibn al-Nu'man al-Fihri—may Allah curse him."
He came upon the Prophet—Exalted is His Majesty—while he was at Al-Abtah. He made his camel kneel, tethered it, and approached the Prophet—Exalted is His Majesty—who was in an assembly of Quraysh and others. He offered the greeting of peace, and the Prophet returned the greeting to him.
Then he said—Exalted is His Majesty—"O Muhammad" (and he did not address him as 'O Messenger of Allah'): "You told us to bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and we bore witness. Then you told us to bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah, and we bore witness. Then you told us to pray five times, and we prayed. Then you told us to fast, and we fasted. Then you told us to perform the Pilgrimage, and we performed the Pilgrimage. Then you told us that if one of us is provided with two hundred Dirhams, he must pay the Zakat, and we paid the Zakat.
