The Report of Al-Fihri (May Allah Curse and Disgrace Him)
It was narrated by Muhammad ibn Abd Allah, who said: Abu al-Husayn Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Ma’mar narrated to me, saying: Abu Ja’far Muhammad ibn Umar ibn Tarif narrated to me, saying: Ali ibn al-Hasan al-Nakha’i narrated to me, saying: Rumi ibn Hammad al-Harithi narrated to me, saying:
I came to Sufyan ibn ‘Uyayna and said to him: "O Abu Muhammad, what say you regarding the word of Allah the Almighty: 'A solicitor solicited a punishment bound to happen' 1 —concerning whom was this verse revealed?" He replied: "By Allah, O son of my brother, no one has asked me about it before you. I did ask Ja’far ibn Muhammad—Exalted is His Majesty—and he said: 'By Allah, O son of my brother, no one has asked me about it before you. My father informed me, on the authority of my grandfather, from his father Al-Husayn ibn Ali—Exalted is His Majesty—that he said:
When it was the Day of Ghadir Khumm, the Prophet—Exalted is His Majesty—cried out: 'The prayer is gathering!' Then he took the arms of the Prince of the Believers—Exalted is His Majesty—and raised them until the whiteness of their underarms was seen.
