A Supplement to the Previous Discourse
Since we have narrated that the Prince of the Believers—Sanctified are His Names—made his Friday prayer [serve as] his Eid prayer, it is incumbent upon us to mention the prayer of this day, upon which the Shī'a have reached a consensus and transmitted from the Imams—Peace be upon them. For all that we have narrated, the People of the Outward (Ahl al-Zahir) are in agreement regarding its authenticity, while the Elite (Al-Khassa), who are the People of the Inward (Ahl al-Batin), are knowledgeable of what the Master—Majestic is His Power—commanded. They adhere to the outward form of His Sunnah while being realized in the inward depth of His Gnosis (Ma'rifa), acknowledging His Monotheism and Divinity.
We have summarized this discourse from what was narrated by Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Nu'man (Sheikh al-Mufid)—may Allah be pleased with him—in his treatise Al-Muqni'a. He said: "When the daylight rises on the eighteenth day of Dhu al-Hijja, perform a ritual bath (Ghusl) as you would for the two Eids and Friday. Wear your purest garments and apply some perfume if you are able. Watch the sun, and when half an hour or so remains before its zenith (Zawal), pray two units (Rak'as). In each unit, recite the Opening of the Book (Al-Fatiha), 'Sincerity' (Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad) ten times, 'The Night of Decree' (Inna Anzalnahu) ten times, and the 'Throne Verse' (Ayat al-Kursi) ten times.
