And He made it such that it is not complete except by submitting to what He commanded, refraining from what He forbade, and gathering and submission through His obedience in what He urged and called toward. His Monotheism (Tawhid) is not accepted except through the acknowledgment of His Prophet Muhammad—Exalted is His Majesty—and his Prophethood; nor is our Lord accepted except through the Guardianship (Wilaya) of those whose Guardianship He established. The means of His obedience are not organized except by adhering to His Infallibility (Isma) and the Infallibility of the People of His Guardianship.

Thus, Allah—Exalted and Sublime—revealed unto His Prophet Muhammad—Exalted is His Majesty—on the Day of the Descent of the Spirit 1 , that which clarified His Will regarding His elite and those who respond [to Him]. He commanded him to proclaim on His behalf and to abandon the folly 2 of the people of deviation, error, and hypocrisy. He guaranteed him protection from them and exposed the secrets of the people of doubt and the hidden thoughts of the people of apostasy and what He censured therein.

The believers understood it, yet it became burdensome 3 for some, while others turned away.
