The Merit of Bestowing Knowledge
O virtuous masters and noble brothers, those addressed by the Book of Allah—Exalted and Sublime is He—where He said: "{Those who believe and do righteous deeds; for them is joy and a beautiful place of final return}" 1 .
And He commanded them, saying—and how Great is He as a Speaker: "And [remember] when Allah took a covenant from those who were given the Scripture, [saying], 'You must make it clear to the people and not conceal it.' But they threw it away behind their backs and exchanged it for a small price. And wretched is that which they purchased" 2 .
It is narrated from our Master, the Prince of the Believers—Exalted is His Majesty—that he said:
"Knowledge is a trust (Wadi’a) from Allah held by the Scholar for the sake of the Learner. If he does not deliver the trust to its rightful people, Allah will strip him of that trust and make it a proof against him and a burden upon him."
