And [a day] of unveiling (Kashf); it is a day of calling from the assemblies in the Muhammadan Dome (al-Qubba al-Muhammadiyya), because in it the Meaning (al-Ma'na), His Majesty, was manifest in His Essence, and His Name (Ism) was manifest before Him, calling and pointing towards Him; and His Gate (Bab) was before Him, calling and guiding the worlds to Him, and acting as a witness for them and against them. The Great World (al-'Alam al-Kabir), the five thousand luminous beings, were present and manifest by the manifestation of the Meaning, the Name, and the Gate at Ghadir Khumm—which is a pool of gathered water. When Lord (al-Sayyid) Muhammad declared the call and the pointing towards his Master with Monotheism (Tawhid) explicitly and through unveiling, it was named the Eid of Ghadir.
The exoteric (Zahiriyya) Shi'a have narrated regarding it that it is a noble day of great status because God singled out the Commander of the Faithful for the Imamate therein; and the verse was revealed to the Messenger of God on that day, so he fasted it in gratitude to God for what He bestowed upon the Commander of the Faithful of the Imamate. As for the People of Tawhid, they believed regarding it what I have previously mentioned: that it is a day of unveiling and manifestation. Therefore, they practiced therein eating, drinking, rejoicings, handshaking, supplication to God Almighty, and gratitude for what He bestowed of His grace.
