He says: When they realized that the metamorphosed bodies (Abdan Masukhiyyah) would be transformed into the worst of structures (Hayakil), and that they would find no place to flee from the punishment or from Allah, He said to them: "Do not run, and do not flee; return—while you are in the metamorphosed forms—to your dwellings and your people." And He left them in [a state of] regret while they were being tormented.
[40] Then it was narrated that the first to emerge from the army of Sa'd on the day of the slaying of al-Husayn—may His Might be exalted—were two Abyssinian men of massive stature, and their eyes were burning with fire. When they came before our Master al-Husayn—may His Might be exalted—he said: "O Gabriel, bring me the two men in their composition of metamorphosis (Tarkibihima fil-Masukhiyyah)."
He [the narrator] said: So Gabriel extended his hand, took them by their backs, and placed them before him [al-Husayn]; and behold, they were two salt-and-pepper rams (Kabshan Amlahan). He said: When our Master al-Husayn looked at them, they lowered their heads. He said to his companions: "Do you know who these two are?" They said: "Are they not but two rams?" Then our Master al-Husayn gave a shout and said: "Return to that by which you are [truly] known!"
