If they are not metamorphosed in their bodies, they are metamorphosed in their intellects and their movements. Their movements have led them to doubts, and those intellects [exist] within the metamorphosed forms that correspond to those intellects and those [types of] discernment. Do you understand, O Mufaddal?" I said: "Yes, my Master. Was it [the body] then its 'house' (Baytuha) for that which He intends to traverse within it?" He said: "Yes." Then he reflected for a moment and said: "Do you not see that he [such a person] is more inimical than a donkey, more enduring in carrying [burdens] than a camel, and more resilient than a predator and that is for what is intended for him of the transfer (Naql) into it, as a grace from Allah—Mighty and Majestic—and to remove their trepidation regarding what He transfers them into.
He only did that so they would not feel estranged in whatever degree they are transferred into within the forms of people (Suwar al-Nas)."
I said: "My Master, explain that to me?" He said: "Yes. Among them are those who have been cycled (Ruddida) through the forms of camels seventy times; then he is seen in the form of a cow, and after that, he is transferred into the forms of people and the Wilayah (Divine Authority) is presented to him. If he accepts, He returns him to the human state (Bashariyyah). But if he does not accept, Allah makes him familiar—while he is in the forms of people before he dies—with being a cattle-herder, a camel-driver, a groom, or a shepherd.
