And those who disbelieved in God and rejected His Monotheism—those are the allies of the Transgressors, [moving] from human bodies into the temples of metamorphosis; they are its people, and therein they shall abide eternally.
[22] And on the authority of the Master al-Sadiq—exalted is His might—that he said: "When the people of punishment depart, they become three groups: a group returned to an abode of the severest punishment—meaning torment—and those shall abide therein eternally; a group returned to the Abode of Affliction (Dar al-Balwa); and a group returned to the 'Scraps' (al-Qushash), to be transferred into seventy forms, becoming among them a worm. That is [the meaning of] the words of the Almighty: {Then into a chain whose length is seventy cubits, thrust him; indeed, he did not believe in Allah the Most Great} 1 ."
He says: The "Scrap" (al-Qashsha) exists in seventy creations. Allah Almighty said: {And then they will be at the Wakeful Place (al-Sahira)} 2 . He says: Every worm remains wakeful; it neither sleeps nor mates. From it, there is no act of creation or procreation; it does not lay eggs, nor is it cultivated.
Allah Almighty said: {Then We returned him to the lowest of the low} 3 . He says: We made him a worm with no offspring, no child, no lineage, and no part in creation—and there is nothing weaker than it.
