[20] This is supported by what Yunus ibn Zhabyan—peace be upon him—narrated, saying: I was with my Master Ja'far—exalted is His might—one day, when Abu al-Tayyibat—peace be upon him—entered and complained to him about the "Shortcomers" (al-Muqassira). He said: "By My Might and My Majesty, in whatever form I wish, I shall surely torment them in the world and the Hereafter. As for the world, I shall return them to metamorphosis (al-Masukhiyya), from one mold to another, and from one transformation to another: {Every time their skins are roasted through, We will replace them with other skins so they may taste the punishment} 1 because of what they used to do."
I said: "My Master, is this the interpretation of this verse?" He said: "Yes. Every time We remove them from one color of torment in metamorphosis, We install them into another, so they may taste the punishment for what they have done. As for the Hereafter, it consists of a group returned to an abode of the severest torment, wherein they shall abide eternally; and another group—the believers—whose return is unto Purity (al-Safa)."
And the words of the Almighty: {Those invite to the Fire, but Allah invites to Paradise and to forgiveness by His permission} 2 .
