I contemplated him as he appeared, and I said: 'My Master, I would like to see him in a form other than this.' He said: 'If you saw him in another form, would you recognize him?' I said: 'My Master, if you make him known to me, I shall recognize him.' So he looked at him with the eye of wrath, and he returned to the form of a hedgehog (Qunfudh) just as his name was, and I confirmed him in the form of that metamorphosis. Then he returned to his first state, and my Master said: 'O Jabir, this is the destiny of the people of metamorphosis (Ahl al-Maskh).'"

This is [the meaning of] the words of the Almighty—Mighty and Majestic: {Allah has set a seal upon their hearts and upon their hearing, and over their vision is a veil, and for them is a great punishment} 1 . Meaning: those states from which He transferred them into metamorphosis; therein they neither hear nor understand due to the veil upon them from the torment in those molds. This is supported by the words of the Almighty: {They will have from Hell a bed and over them coverings [of fire]. And thus do We recompense the wrongdoers} 2 . And the Almighty said: {And fear a Day when no soul will suffice for another soul at all, nor will intercession be accepted from it, nor will compensation be taken from it, nor will they be supported} 3 .

meaning: Fear a day when you shall enter into metamorphosis (al-Masukhiyya), where no intercession will be accepted from any of you, nor will his knowledge benefit him, and no one will avail you against the torment of God.
