And His words—Mighty and Majestic: {How can you disbelieve in Allah when you were lifeless and He brought you to life; then He will cause you to die, then He will bring you to life [again], and then to Him you will be returned} 1 . He says: Do you rebel against your Master when He has called you to Monotheism? You died and He gave you life, then you disbelieved and He metamorphosed you, then He returns you to humanity and calls you to that [Monotheism] again.

[17] And what was stated by Abu 'Ali ibn Hammam, from his father, from his men, from Muhammad ibn Sinan, from 'Amr ibn Shimr, from Jabir—peace be upon him—who said: "I entered a storehouse belonging to my Master Abu 'Abd Allah—exalted is His might—and found within it pieces of wood. I asked my Master Abu 'Abd Allah about that wood and its purpose. He laughed 2 and then said: 'These are the pieces of wood that Qunfudh gathered to burn 'Ali, Fatima, al-Hasan, and al-Husayn. When our Riser (al-Qa'im) rises, he shall summon him and with the wood and the two Idols (al-Taghutayn), and he shall burn them with it.' Then he said: 'Would you like to see Qunfudh?' I said: 'Yes, my Master.' He then extended his hand over my face and said: 'Look.' I looked, and there was a hedgehog (Qunfudhan).

Footnotes

1Surah al-Baqarah, Verse 28.
2This is the state of our Masters—exalted is Their highness—regarding these calamities which They manifested outwardly. Laughter in such instances stems from Them as a form of mockery and stratagem against the Opposites (al-Adhdad). As mentioned in the book Kamil al-Ziyarat, when the Commander of the Faithful—exalted is His might—mentioned the killing of al-Husayn and what would befall him, He laughed until His premolars were visible. This is the Sunnah that our Master established in His earth: laughing at and mocking the Opposites. It does not mean He was wronged by those around Him as they [the commoners] narrate of weeping and hunger; rather: {...but the evil plot does not encompass except its own people}.
