God made these human bodies for them to be transferred into so that He may present His Monotheism to them. The matter is not as the common folk and the people of "shortcoming" (Ahl al-Taqsir) believe—that the punishment of God, Mighty and Majestic, in the Hereafter is a confined and restricted fire. They narrate that it is a fire kindled for a thousand years until it turned red, a thousand years until it turned white, and a thousand years until it turned black; that it is black and dark, mingled with the wrath and anger of God, with no breath of air for its inhabitants.
The Lord—exalted is His might—is more generous and more merciful toward His servants than to punish them with that which they have no strength to endure. As for such [a fire], causes cannot withstand it, nor could the mountains remain firm against it—so how could a body of flesh and blood? However, the people have become ignorant of the knowledge of God; they have distorted His Book and the reports of His stations (Maqamat), attributing to Him that which He does not do and that which is contrary to His nature. High is the Sublime, the Grand, far above what the doubters say, a great exaltation.
This is supported by what He mentioned in the words of the Almighty: {Say, "Each works according to his manner (Shakilatihi), but your Lord is most knowing of who is best guided in way"} 1 .
