His punishment is then gradually lightened until he completes his assigned molds within metamorphosis, according to the measure of his sins and disbelief. As he approaches the transition back to humanity, Monotheism (al-Tawhid) of his Creator is presented to him; his torment diminishes and his affliction is eased. The lightest of his suffering occurs in the final mold, after which there is no further mold of metamorphosis except that he is returned to humanity in a single shirt (Qamis). The Word of Monotheism is presented to him; if he responds [he is saved], otherwise he returns to metamorphosis.

This is supported by what was narrated on the authority of al-Sadiq—exalted is His might—who spoke regarding the vast superiority of those who return to humanity over those who do not. This is because the human form is that through which the Lord—Mighty and Majestic—manifested, and through which He manifested His Name—exalted is His might—and His Gate (Bab), to whom be submission. Therefore, it became the most excellent of forms. The excellence of those who return to humanity over those who do not is for this reason: whoever is far from it is far from the Hereafter, from goodness, and from the Meaning (al-Ma'na), the Name, and the Gate. Conversely, whoever is near to it is near to his Creator, His Name, and His Gate. His sins do not distance him [permanently], for he is close to the form through which the Manifestation occurred. By his proximity to it, he becomes a radiant light, and by his distance from it, he becomes dark. We seek refuge in God, through the pleasure and pardon of the Compassionate, from His wrath and His torment.
