He—Exalted is His might—said: "From that, various conditions afflict him; for man is created from the affair of the World and the Hereafter. When God joins them, his life begins on earth, because he has descended from the affair of the Hereafter to the affair of the World. When God separates them, the separation occurs in death; because the affair of the Hereafter is returned to heaven. Life is on earth, and death is in heaven. This is because when the spirit and the body are separated, the spirit, the fire, and the light are returned to the Divine Power 1 .

The body is left behind because it is of the affair of the World. The body only decays in the world because the Wind dries the Water and the Fire parches the Clay; thus it becomes remains, withers, and every essence is returned to that from which it was created.

The movement 2 of the soul is from the Spirit. Whatever is of the soul of the believer, it is a hot light supported by the Intellect (al-'Aql); and whatever is of the soul of the disbeliever, it is a cold fire supported by denial (al-Nukran) 3 .
