If the endurance of his intellect is derived from the Light, he becomes a scholar, a memorizer, intelligent, and discerning. Through this, he knows who has advised him and who has deceived him. Once he knows his course, what is connected to him, and what is detached from him, he will have achieved through it [this knowledge] true self-sufficiency. He lives in eternal subsistence by the sincerity of Oneness and the performance of obedience. When he does this, he becomes one who recovers what he missed, prepares for what is coming, and knows the state he is in 1 —from where he came and to what he is becoming 2 . Through this, the completion of his knowledge and the nature of his understanding are realized. His understanding only exists through the perpetual endurance of his intellect. The soul may flow within him while it is hot, or it may flow within him while it is cold 3 . When the "hot" soul dwells within, he becomes insolent, reckless, reckless, reveals [secrets], kills, steals, and rejoices 4 .
In another manuscript, an addition: "...and the growth of what he is in of his essence."
In another manuscript, an addition: "And he finds no yellow except in that which is yellowed, no red except in that which is reddened, no black except in black, and no white except in that which is whitened. He finds only smell, or sweet, bitter, sour, or salty. So when he knows the red without redness, the yellow without yellowness, the black without blackness, and the white without whiteness, then the completion of that is in his knowledge."
As mentioned in the book al-Haft al-Sharif: "...Whatever is from the soul of the believer, it is from a hot light extended by the intellect. Whatever is from the soul of the disbeliever, it is cold extended by the fire. The believer's form is light and the disbeliever's form is fire. The movement in them is from the spirit; what moves by the light and the spirit is from his right, and what moves by the fire is his left. This is the meaning of His words: {As for he who is given his record in his right hand... and as for he who is given his record in his left hand...}"
These terms may have an inner (Batin) interpretation in exegesis. As mentioned regarding the tribes of Joseph: "Kill Joseph," where killing signifies "Knowledge" (Ma'rifa) as stated in the Egyptian Treatise. It is also mentioned regarding the wolf that it refers to Aqil ibn Abi Talib. Similarly, {God commands you to slaughter a cow}—the cow is Fatima, or in another narration, the "Gate" (al-Bab). Slaughtering is the completion of knowledge by negating created attributes. It is also mentioned in the Egyptian Treatise: {If he steals, a brother of his has stolen before}; every theft mentioned in the Book of God is blamed, except in this context, where it is praise and not blame.
