When he emerges, is heralded, and sees the world, he cries and screams out of fear for himself, [dreading] that he has come out into a hardship more severe than the previous one. He has already endured the difficulty of birth and wading through impurities; he wishes that he could become a thing forgotten and out of sight. He sees the evils of what he had done and remembers them, weeping over that time until the completion of twenty-four months—the number of the days of breastfeeding. Then, he forgets what he was in when he begins to speak, and he escalates in his evil deeds until he becomes darkened. When he is darkened, he merits—at the completion of his disbelief—the torment that God Almighty mentioned in His Book, saying:

{And We will surely let them taste the nearer punishment short of the greater punishment that perhaps they will return} 1 .

The nearer punishment is the transition through the degrees of metamorphosis (al-Masukhiyya). He is transferred into every type of it and Monotheism (al-Tawhid) is presented to him; if he responds, he is returned to a human shirt (Qamis), otherwise, he is sent back to metamorphosis in a shirt (Qamis) other than the one in which he was repeated. Every time he emerges from one type, he is returned and Monotheism (al-Tawhid) is presented to him.
