When his creation, delineation, and shaping are complete, he is [yet] an inanimate object with no spirit or movement within him."

This is [the meaning of] His—the Almighty’s—words:

{And certainly did We create man from an extract of clay. Then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging. Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allah, the best of creators} 1 .

As for the movement of the soul within it: it transfers itself once it has fulfilled its term in the molds in which it resided. It moves into the fetus whose shaping has been completed in its mother's womb. When it enters therein, it moves with a weak motion, like the blinking of an eyelid over the eye; this is due to the weakness of its soul and the difficulty of the transfer at that time. If it is a knowing believer whose faith and knowledge are increasing, then his soul is transferred into that fetus with strength, clarity, and intimacy. When the spirit settles within it, it moves with a strong motion, and his mother's womb is widened for him.
