Consequently, the temperaments of both change toward their children, their families, their companions, and all their kin. Anyone who knows either of them says to someone who does not: "Do you not see how so-and-so's state has changed? It is as if he is not the one we used to know; his character has altered, and his harm and affliction have increased." Thus, he becomes detested by his family, his children, his brothers, and his relatives. No one can bear to speak to him, and he does not show understanding 1 toward anyone. No lover remains for him, whether near or far; his life becomes miserable, his drink becomes murky, and he remains in this state only while wishing for death due to the greatness of the hostility he faces from his family and acquaintances. Whoever is described as such is in great affliction; we seek refuge in the pleasure of the Entirely Merciful from His wrath and painful torment, and we return to what we were addressing.

As for Entrenchment (al-Raskh), it is the last of the types of metamorphosis. It is the most severe and exhausting in terms of punishment, and the slowest in terms of relief. No one is transferred to it except those who have [already] been transferred from other types of metamorphosed forms. When his rebellion and arrogance intensify, and his tyranny and wickedness increase, his soul is then entrenched in the types of inanimate objects, such as gold, silver, iron, copper, lead, stones, wood, clay, and similar things that have no spirit or movement.
