That metamorphosed form is the very same human being; for he was inverted in creation, an utter inversion. Since he merited existence among the metamorphosed forms, his creation was transferred; his head was made his rear, and his rear his head, his beard became a tail, his mouth his outlet, his nose his private part, his hands his feet, and his feet his hands. Thus, he becomes an inverted creation; we seek refuge in God, our Master, from His wrath.

As for Abjection (al-Waskh), it is to be transferred into the smallest temples, such as beetles, locusts, and the like; and the lizard (al-Dabb), the monitor lizard (al-Wargh), and the mole (al-Khuld) 1 , and those that dwell among the weeds. Its food consists of excrement, dung, and the like; it is also forbidden to be eaten because its type is among the types of metamorphosis, and because he is transferred with his temple into that [new] temple. For this reason, it is forbidden to the believers.

And he returns to the rank of Dissolution (al-Faskh), which is the first of the degrees. It is that from which his soul is dissolved, departing from his body while he has not left life, nor is he missing, nor dead. His soul is dissolved into a temple other than his own, and the soul of that [other] temple to which that spirit was transferred is also dissolved and transferred into the temple of the spirit transferred to it. Thus, the soul of this one enters into that one, and the soul of this one [enters] into that one.

Footnotes

1The mole is an entirely blind animal; its very small eyes are completely covered by a layer of skin, unlike many other burrowing rodents.
