The explanation of the details of these types of metamorphosed forms is that Transmigration (al-Naskh) is when the soul is transcribed into the entities of slaughter—those whose meat, fat, and milk are eaten, and whose hair, fur, and wool are utilized. Thus, [the soul] tastes torment in that temple (Haykal) and its constriction, along with the loss of speech and their regret over the good things they missed from what they possessed in human form.
Then [the soul] tastes the heat and cold of iron through skinning and butchering. It is repeated in forms larger or more minute than itself, according to the extent of its sins and tyranny. Among them are those whose repetition therein is brief before being returned to human form, and among them are those whose repetition and recurrence are prolonged until they are transferred through many types of slaughtered animals. Then, [the soul] is returned to human form, and the Oneness (Tawhid) of its Creator—Mighty and Majestic—is presented to it. If it responds, [it is saved]; otherwise, it is returned to that from which it was transferred, as a mercy and justice from its Master.
Indeed, He transfers them into the metamorphosed forms (al-Masukhiyyat) so that the arrogant souls may be humbled. Had He willed to punish them with something more severe than these metamorphosed forms, He would have done so; however, He is Compassionate and Merciful. He does not subject them to severe torment except after prolonged intimidation, warning, and recurrence within the human molds (Qalib), sending to them those who call them unto Him.
