Isma'il ibn Muhammad—the narrator of the report—says: "Indeed, the lifespan of the believer is a thousand years, during which he is cycled (Yukarrar) within the transmigrations (al-Nusakh) in the human state (al-Bashariyyah); and the lifespan of the disbeliever is a thousand years, during which he is cycled within all the metamorphosed compositions and other than that of the [animals] that are eaten, as the Master mentioned regarding the compositions."

The Almighty said: {Losers indeed are those who denied the meeting with Allah until, when the Hour comes upon them unexpectedly, they say: "Oh, our regret over what we neglected concerning it," while they bear their burdens on their backs. Unquestionably, evil is that which they bear} 1 . He says: Those who denied the Oneness of Allah (Tawhid) have indeed lost, until when the Transition (al-Naqlah) comes upon them unawares; at that moment, each of them says: "Oh, our regret, we did not profess the Oneness of our Creator." They look at themselves within the various types of metamorphosis (Masukhiyyah), having been clothed in fur, wool, hair, and feathers. At that point, they know they were not upon the truth; unquestionably, evil is how they lost themselves through their disbelief in their Creator.
