If the rational and guided man is tested by it, his own weakness in managing it becomes clear to him; thus, he becomes humble and submissive, turning with desire toward the Manager of All and its [First] Cause, who pours forth all goodness upon those who seek Him. By inclining toward Goodness, his soul acquires goodness and insight; he is then guided to a virtuous conduct and directed toward correctness and salvation from error through divine success (Tawfiq). Such a soul drinks from the fountain of Goodness and Justice, then pours forth what it contains upon those under its management. In this way, Justice, Goodness, and the happiness of both the governor and the governed appear.
As for the ignorant man, if he is tested with management, it gladdens and delights him. He imagines that within his own strength and nature, there is that which can fulfill its demands—and even double them. At that moment, he becomes negligent toward it and its management, turning all his strength toward [sensual] pleasure and luxury, which yield only ignorance, blindness, lapse, and error. Such a soul drinks from the fountain of Evil and Injustice and pours forth what it contains upon .those under his management; thus, Evil and Injustice appear, leading to the destruction of both the governor and the governed.
O soul: When you enter the world of dreams, do not rejoice in it nor in what you witness there, and do not take it as reality; otherwise, upon awakening, you will become a laughingstock, a mockery, and a plaything.
