But as long as the instrument of Evil is in your hand while you desire to perform Goodness, that shall be withheld from you and prove difficult—just as it is impossible for one who holds the tool of farming to perform goldsmithing with it; his exhaustion and toil would be prolonged, yet his work would never be completed.

Be certain of this meaning, O soul, and know: the love of this world and Goodness never gather within one heart at all. Envision the reality of this and perceive it with your intellectual sight.

O soul: Indeed, through true Knowledge, you perceive with your vision your connection to your Creator and your affinity with Him; thus, you delight in that with the delight of Truth. But through ignorance, you lack this and deny it, due to your blindness, your darkness, your error, and your lapse. You then imagine, through delusion, that you are of the base species and attach yourself to them; consequently, you become coupled with various forms of torment and pain.

O soul: Let all your aims be the Knowledge of Truth. Once you have acquired it, rise and purify yourself in thought and discernment, that you may thereby attain correctness and make it your habit. Then your vision and your light shall sharpen; you will act at that time as the insightful, the correct, the luminous, and the guided. You will forget ignorance, blindness, and error, casting them aside and ceasing to act as the ignorant, the blind, and the mistaken. Contemplate this and take heed of it, for by taking heed of it, you shall find its reality.
