CHAPTER THREE

O soul: Indeed, the accidents dwelling within the dense substance lack harmony and are characterized by discord and opposition. Therefore, beware of them, O soul, and turn away from them; for they are the very meaning I have warned against and the fear I have cautioned you of.

O soul: You are unique, while they are many; you are harmonious, while they are discordant; you are sincere, while they are deceptive. You are a present truth, while there is no reality to their existence. You are an enduring and remaining good, while they are but vanities, camouflage, transient, and perishing. So turn away from them, O soul, and beware of their enslavement of you, their severing of your [essence], and their betrayal of you. Do not depart, O soul, from your unique, true, and noble essence to follow after their multiplicity, their discord, their impossibilities, their baseness, and their defects, lest you go astray and perish.

O soul: Until when will you remain impoverished, fleeing from one opposite to another?

One moment fleeing from heat to cold, and another from cold to heat; one moment from hunger to satiety, and another from satiety to hunger.
