(156) As for the reviving of the dead: among such instances is what Abu al-Hasan Raiq ibn al-Khadar ibn al-Qasim al-Ghassani, known as al-Muhallami—may God be pleased with him—narrated to me. He said: My sheikh Abu al-Hasan al-Kufi al-Attar narrated to me: Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Nu'mani narrated to me: Muhammad ibn Kuhi al-Sirai narrated to me, tracing it back to Salim al-Armani, from Salman the Persian, peace be upon him, who said: I was with my Master the Lord Muhammad, Mighty is His Might, when a knocker knocked at our door. He said: "Stand, O Abu Abd Allah, and open the door." I did as he commanded, and the three entered.

When they were settled in their seating, Abu Bakr said: "O Muhammad (and he did not say 'O Messenger of God'!), you told us that Abraham is the Friend of God and that I am better and more excellent than him, so what is the proof for that?" Umar said: "O Muhammad! You told us that Moses is the Interlocutor of God and His Word, and that I am better and more excellent than him, so what is the proof for that?" Uthman said: "O Muhammad! You told us that Jesus is the Spirit of God and His Word, and that I am better and more excellent than him, so what is the proof for that?"

The Messenger of God, Mighty is His Might, became angry (though he would not show anger except that his face would redden) and said: "O Salman, bring to me my brother and my cousin Ali ibn Abi Talib." Salman said: I went out seeking my Master Amir Almuminin, Mighty is His Might, and he met me on the road and said: "Return, for I am heading toward you all; I have known the state of the people and their words." He entered upon the Messenger, Mighty is His Might. When the Messenger looked at him, he stood for Amir Almuminin, kissed him between his eyes, and said: "O Ali, go out with these people to al-Baqi', for you shall see a worn-away grave; call out to it, and it shall answer you."
