Al-Mufaddal, peace be upon him, asked: "O my master, what if the father who bestowed this upon him deviates? What should the believer do with him?" He said: "He should be with him as God, Mighty and Majestic, said: {And accompany them in this world with kindness}. If he knows that he has disbelieved, he should not openly disassociate from him so as not to expose him before his enemies or alert them by disparaging him. Rather, he should do what God commanded in His saying: {And follow the path of him who turns to Me}. Thus, he should follow the scholars who have reached a level of knowledge that the other did not, and follow their path; therein lies his salvation."
(118) And by his chain of transmission from our master al-Sadiq, Mighty is His Might, that he said to Jabir ibn Yazid al-Ju'fi, peace be upon him: "O Jabir, advise your student as your Master advised you, and show him compassion as he showed you compassion. Beware of being a 'spy' (observing him harshly or with suspicion), for you shall be held accountable. Whoever does not refine the discipline of his [spiritual] son and his education, or withholds from him any part of knowledge, has indeed killed him; and God has forbidden that, saying: {And do not kill your children for fear of poverty; We provide for them and for you}."
(119) And my master, my sheikh, may God be pleased with him, narrated to me by his chain from the Lord Messenger, Mighty is His Might, that he said one day to Salman, peace be upon him, when he entered upon him: "How have you reached the morning, O Salman?" He said: "As a true believer." He said: "What is the sign of your faith?" Salman said: "I have recognized the Connection (al-Ittisal) from the Separation (al-Infisal)." The Mime [Muhammad], Mighty is His Might, said: "You have recognized, so adhere."
