I said: "O our master, you know them best." He said: He then handed me a ring that was on his hand and said: "Read what is upon it." I read what was on its gemstone, and behold, written upon it was: Adhere to dissimulation (Taqiyya) and you shall be saved. Then he said: "O Abu Khalid, Taqiyya is my religion and the religion of my fathers and grandfathers; whoever has no Taqiyya has no religion."

(112) And by the chain of transmission from him, from Abu Khalid, peace be upon him, who said: My master, the Master of the Worshipers (Sayyid al-Abidin), Mighty is His Might, said: "O Abu Khalid, Taqiyya is a fortified stronghold and an impenetrable shield." He also said: "Those who killed us did not kill us with the sword; rather, those who killed us were those who broadcast our secret."

(113) And he, Mighty is His Might, said: "Adhere to Taqiyya in matters where there is no [immediate] need for Taqiyya, so that you may adhere to it in matters where Taqiyya is required, and thus it becomes your natural character."

(114) And by the chain of transmission, traced back to our master al-Sadiq, Mighty is His Might, that he said to Abu Mu'awiya: "The likeness of our followers (Shi'a) is as the likeness of the youths of the People of the Cave: they manifested disbelief and harbored faith. When the Day of Resurrection comes, God shall gather them as a community unto themselves. Have you not heard the saying of the Almighty, narrating from Jacob, peace be upon him: {O my son, do not relate your vision to your brothers, lest they plot against you; indeed, Satan is a clear enemy to man}, meaning: Adhere to Taqiyya."

(115) And by the chain of transmission, our master the Knower, Mighty is His Might, said to Abu Mu'awiya: "O Abu Mu'awiya, convey my salutations to my followers and say to them: 'Your likeness is only as the likeness of the bee; if it eats, it eats what is good, and if it produces, it produces what is good. If it lands upon a branch, it does not scratch it. Had the birds known what was in its belly, they would have eaten it. Likewise, had our enemies known what is in your chests of our knowledge, they would have killed you; so do not broadcast any secret to them.'"
