I said: "You have spoken the truth; he is the Mim regarding whom the Meaning said: {It is He who has sent down to you the Book; in it are verses [that are] precise - they are the mother of the Book - and others unspecific. As for those in whose hearts is deviation [from truth], they will follow that of it which is unspecific, seeking discord and seeking an interpretation [suitable to them]. And no one knows its [true] interpretation except God. But those firm in knowledge say, 'We believe in it. All [of it] is from our Lord.' And no one will be reminded except those of understanding}1. Do you not know that Abd Allah ibn Abd al-Muttalib is the month of Ramadan in which the Quran was revealed, and the Quran is the Mim who appeared from him through support? So if the Quran is the Mim, then I am unable to interpret the Quran, for it is the location of the Name from the Meaning—Exalted and Sublimed is He, and sanctified is His Name. No one from the two worlds, the High and the Lower, knows that, nor do they encompass the recognition of them both, nor even a portion of his status from the Meaning; so what of me, the weak and lowly one?"
Our Sheikh and Exemplar, Lord Abu Abd Allah al-Husayn ibn Hamdan al-Khasibi—may God ennoble his station—said: "Indeed, the Name has a status from the Meaning that the Mim does not know, out of glorification and magnification." Whoever possesses this status from his Creator, how can I interpret him or reach his recognition, except in as much as He granted me success and made me recognize?
(647) The Master—exalted be his glory—refined me by His saying: "Ask me regarding what is below the Throne, and the Throne is the Mim—exalted be his glory." Rather, I explain and interpret the narratives and the revelation that is recited by the tongues.
He then said to me: "What is the meaning of the words of the Mighty and Sublime that you cited at the beginning of your speech: {It is He who has sent down to you the Book; in it are verses precise - they are the mother of the Book - and others unspecific}2?"
